We had a fantastic day in Sheffield working with Bridged Media on a promo video for a management company. Bridged Media contracted me to do all the aerial shots to add to the final product.

Here’s a little snippet of shots I threw together from the day:

The new regulations regarding small unmanned aircraft in UK airspace has opened doors for many flights that were previously only possible under exemptions and authorisations, especially with lighter aircraft. The Mini 2 is a fantastic tool that I am delighted to add to the toolbox.

Magpie Mine

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Andy, one of the volunteers keeping Magpie Mill beautiful and safe. He was busy giving up his time to fix a grill on one of the mine-shafts that had been vandalised but was still more than happy to give up even more of his time to explain the fascinating history behind the best surviving example of a 19th-century lead mine in Derbyshire to me.

As much as the branding suggests that this operation is one man and his drone, many missions have huge involvement from a lot of other parties – observers, camera operators, marshals etc. Let me explain with a few examples. Was my drone shot legal?

  • 07/10/202006/11/2020

Drones have seen some bad press. A lot of it warranted in fairness, as drones have become incredibly easily accessible to stupid people! I always follow the rules and regulations regarding the safe operation of a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). It is obviously frustrating when people oblivious or ignorant of the rules go and take the shot that I wanted but couldn’t take because it would not have been safe or legal, but they are the rules and they are there to keep us all safe. It is still possible to get great results by thinking outside the box.
