How to use W3W to send me exact locations
What3Words (W3W hereafter) have developed an amazing system where they divide the world up into 3m² squares. It’s much more accurate than a Google Maps link to a location. And exact locations are a huge part of drone flight planning!
If you already know how to use W3W then jump straight to the Contact Me -> Location Sender page to pick and send the locations. If not, read on!
We are going to take a fictional example job of inspecting a solar panel on a roof.
Let’s get to the general area first. By typing in an address or postcode, W3W will suggest a list of possibilities. Select the correct one to be brought to the general area.

Once in the general area, switch to satellite view by clicking the icon in the bottom right corner. Then drag the map around and find the first location you want to send me.

In this example, we are going to detail where I can park my car. Click on the square you want to send me the location of and click the copy button:

Paste it into the form below. The form on the Location Sender should look like this:

Next, as requested on the phone, I want the location of the proposed take-off and landing area. Drag the map around, find the area and click on it and copy the 3 words again. Paste them into the next location on the form.

Continue as required. In our example, I will send the exact solar panel that needs inspecting.

Rinse and repeat until you have included all the locations you need to send me.
Then click the Send Locations button!
If you need to send more than 5, just submit the form again with the next batch.
So go ahead to the Location Sender by clicking here and send me the locations requested! Give me a ring or shoot me an email if you have any problems at all.
